PACER & NextGen CM/ECF

The U.S. Bankruptcy Court – District of Nebraska is using NextGen CM/ECF. Logging into CM/ECF has changed. Filers must upgrade existing PACER accounts and use the upgraded accounts to log into NextGen CM/ECF.

Each filer in a court that has adopted NextGen CM/ECF must have an individual, upgraded PACER account. A firmwide or shared account may still be used to perform case research in PACER, but cannot be used to file electronically in NextGen CM/ECF. A filer who has been using a shared PACER account to file in the Nebraska Bankruptcy Court must create a new, upgraded PACER account.

ATTORNEY requesting access.  Prior to approving a request to gain ECF access (either E-Filing or PHV) with United States Bankruptcy Court - District of Nebraska (NEBK), you must be admitted to practice with United States District Court - District of Nebraska (NEDC).  In addition, a Pro Hac Vice (PHV), has to be requested through District Court first, before it can be approved in NEBK.   (See NEGenR 1.7).

Note: An attorney who created a PACER account on or after August 11, 2014 already has an upgraded PACER account which is compatible with NextGen CM/ECF.

Step 1.  Get your own individual PACER account

Sign up for your own PACER account. If you already have your own PACER account, go to Step 2.

You must have your own PACER account, which will be linked to your CM/ECF filing account after NextGen implemention. CM/ECF users will not be able to use shared PACER accounts. Click on the hyperlink to Register for a PACER account:

Step 2.  Upgrade your current PACER account

Upgrade your Current PACER account. If you already have an Upgraded PACER account, go to Step 3.

If you have your own individual PACER account that was created prior to August 11, 2014 (also known as a legacy account), you must upgrade your account before you can electronically file in a NextGen CM/ECF court.

If you do not have your own individual PACER account (i.e., if you share a PACER account with others in your firm), refer to the instructions above in Step 1 to register for a new PACER account.

Log into Manage My Account and upgrade your account by clicking Upgrade link next to your “Account Type” or click on any of the options under the Settings tab. You will then be prompted to upgrade your account.

If the Case Search Status says "Inactive," you can still upgrade your account, but cannot search for case information. To activate your account contact the PACER Service Center for assistance at (800) 676-6856 between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. Central Time, Monday through Friday, or by email at pacer@psc.uscourts.gov.

Step 3.  Request E-Filing Privileges -OR- Link an Existing CM/ECF Account to an Upgraded PACER Account

If you have a CM/ECF login and password, you will need to link your CM/ECF Account to your upgraded PACER Account.  You will need your upgraded PACER login and password, along with your individual CM/ECF login and password for this process. This must be done only once.

If you do not have a CM/ECF login and password, you will need to request E-Filing privileges with the Court.

Click the appropriate hyperlink to either Link your Account -OR- Request E-Filing privileges

After performing Step 3, your CM/ECF login and password are no longer valid for CM/ECF. You must now use your upgraded PACER account to log in to CM/ECF in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court - District of Nebraska.

Note: You also can use this same linked PACER account for CM/ECF logins only in other court units using NextGen CM/ECF. (If you file in courts that have not converted to NextGen CM/ECF, you must continue to use your current log in and password in those courts until they convert to NextGen CM/ECF.)
