Bankruptcy courts do not report or provide information to any consumer reporting agencies. Bankruptcy filings are public records open to examination by law with few exceptions. See 11 U.S.C. § 107; Fed. R. Bankr. P. 5003, 9037. The bankruptcy court is also not responsible for verifying or validating information in consumers’ credit reports.
The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) provide information to the public on their websites about disputing information on credit reports. The FTC’s toll-free number is 877-FTC-HELP (382-4357), and the CFPB’s toll-free number is 855-411-2372.
Bankruptcy records may be viewed online at Public Access to Court Electronic Records (PACER). You will need to sign up for a PACER account to search for, view, and print records.
Copies of bankruptcy records may also be obtained by following the steps outlined on the Copy Request page on our public website or by visiting the Lincoln or Omaha clerk’s office. Fees for copies are charged per the Bankruptcy Court Fee Schedule.
